Is there really no solution to the menace of Computer Viruses?

Every year computer viruses make the world mankind waste millions of manhours.

Why should it be so difficult for some good software organization to make operating systems which are tottaly

immune to such attacks?

Is it theoratically impossible?

Or this just doesnot fit in with their priority scheme?f

How do you protect against something that hasn't been written yet.

Viruses are code new ones come out after they are written.

1) get linux or a mac :(

or

2)never go online
I worked for years in the computer industry and it was hard enough to make the programmes do what was expected every time! It takes a lot of resources to really test software but it is probably impossible to consider every likely eventuality. Most viruses operate by pretending to be something else and people will go on inventing them to prove they are clever.

Vigilance, updating your firewall and virus checkers, changing passwords regularly all helps but there is no immunity possible.
