What has happened is they leave residuals in the Registry that are self healing. Sometimes those are impossible to remove.

First try the Windows patch on this site to Restore the Registry to its DEFAULT state. http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

That will reset the Registry to its as shipped state for the computer. . Of course your computer already has a back up registry and I assume you know that you can go to Start, Programs, accesories, system, an system restore just in case this doesnt work for you.

If not, you are going to have to do a whole restore on your computer using the discs furnished with the computer. All discs not just the first 2. Sorry, thats how it is.
I say go to cnet.com, download SPYBOT and install, after that, go to START, RUN, type msconfig then enter, go to BOOT.INI tab, click on the /safeboot, then restart, now when the computer restarts its in "safe mode" run spybot program a few times!!!! then go to start, run, msconfig, boot.ini tab then un-check the /safe boot then restart, that should help

Limewire has been the best music program I've ever used and also get good virus protection and a firewall. So far, no viruses from limewire, but remember as long as you are downloading music and not executable files such as .exe, .bat files you should be fine. Keep in mind that when it comes to freebies, you always get what you pay for. Now, go to Norton/Symantec site and look in there for their free anti-virus scan; when you find it, let the program scan your machine; keep in mind though that it will take sometime, so let the program go through and at the end it will tell you what and how. If this won't work, the best and the least expensive way to do get rid of any and all bugs is to format your hard drive and start from scratch.

There are viruses and "exploits" for OSX, if you can call them that. The reason these don't work well on OSX is because of the permissions OSX and its UNIX core grant to programs running under user accounts. When you login to OSX you are not logged into an admin or as "root" as it is known in the *nix world. But you can still install applications and make changes to the system (unlike in Windows). If a virus were to get on your OSX system, it would have to request permissions to access (and does) your files and settings but when it attempts to venture into the root realm the OS comes back and says "sorry, you don't have permissions to do that" and the virus basically sits there doing nothing, perhaps being a pain but it'll sit there, twiddle its thumbs all day because OSX won't let it do anything. It would be difficult to create a devastating virus for OSX because of these permissions (unless you're daft enough to login as root on your OSX machine) and it wouldn't spread as fast because only about 5% of the entire world (maybe less) uses OSX. It's not worth a hackers time however, the exploits present in OSX are easily... ummmm, exploited and Apple has come under fire for being lackluster about security patches and updates but again, there just aren't enough Mac users to make it worth a hackers time. However now that it is possible to install Windows XP on your Mac, it has the same vulnerabilities that a regular PC would so you need to take the same security precautions there. There has also been rumors of creating a virus for Windows XP that could jump over to the OSX partition and in theory wreak havoc on it while you're logged into Windows, however, that has yet to manifest itself in any way.

Rebooting my computer to get rid of viruses?

my computer has beome increasingly slow over the past month or so, so i did a few scans for viruses and found that it is infected with quite a few different adware, spyware and trojan thingies. i have tried about 20 different scanning processes but nothing seems to be removing them. scanners from online find hem, but then won't remove them unless i register and pay!

i've been told that even if i do mannage to delete them i will still have problems, is this true??

is there a way to rebootmy computer to just remove everything and start fresh? if so will i still have windows XP or will it literally get rid of everything? i don't have a windows XP disk to re install it because the computer came with it on, has anyone got any suggestions o had imilar problems??

OK, in Regedit, you need to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Wi... Create a new DWORD value and name it:

NoDriveTypeAutoRun

Set the value to (hex) "ff" or (decimal) "255". They are the same value, just don't get them mixed up (i.e. enter HEX 255 or something). Reboot and see if Autorun is disabled.

If you use firefox instead of Internet explorer, the chance of you getting a virus lower a lot. The only way to get a virus on your computer just by viewing a web page is by exploiting a vulnerability inside your browser, like the activeX control. Change your browser and you shouldn't have to worry anymore. Just -don't- download any .exe, .pif, .bat or .com file and you don't have to worry.
Use McAffe site advisor, it will read the site when you are on it and if it is reported, it will show why and show a red background and also tell you to get off, if it isnt reported bad and is good, it will show a green background on its tool saying "This site has been checked and is safe" or somthing. Finally if it is kinda good and kinda bad, it will show a yellow background meaning it is a cautioned website, use at risk.

If the computer has shut down and you can't use it then I think the only solution is to take it in to a repair shop and have them re-format the hard drive, or sort out the problem.

Normally I would say to download some antivirus and antispyware apps. But seeing she can't get it to run the OS you have only a couple options left. As far as formatting and reinstalling the OS, well, in your case I would reconsider. Your best bet is to remove the hard drive and install it in another computer as a slave drive. The computer you will install it in needs to have a good antivirus and antispyware applications installed. When you get the drive setup run the applications to clean the infections. Reeinstall the drive back into her computer and see if it solves your problem. If it does, do yourself a big favor and don't connect to the internet until you get a good set of security program on it. Kaspersky is my recommendation but there are others that will work also. step one do not alienate the people who you are asking for help by using derogatory terms like nerd. second my recommendation for a computer that is that far gone is to reformat, you could salvage it if you have important information on the computer you don't want to loose but at this point reformatting is the best way to be completely sure the computer is clean.

Why not try a system restore to an earlier date before the power went out to see if this helps the problem.
PC's do that after a long time without fragmenting it. Also a good idea is to FORMAT you machine once in a while, say once a year. Just make sure you have backup's of everything.

A torrent file needs to then be given to a BitTorrent program, I reccommend Azureus.

This will download the file for you.

Note that it is illegal to download any commercial music that you do not already own in another medium (and even that is a grey area).

There is nothing stopping someone from uploading a torrent with a virus in it. Pirate bay itself wouldn't be the ones responsible for putting it in the file. It's best to use a virus scanner like Nod32 at all times to catch any incoming data that is coming from a questionable source. I would find an invite only or site that has sign ups only a few hours a week because it tends to keep the "honest" people in and weeds out the users that want to do harm or dumb people with viruses out. there are much much better torrents sites then Pirate Bay just do a search.

There are a number of ways to kill some viruses in eukaryotic cells but usually there are other smarter viruses not affected in the same mechanism. I will only give a couple of interesting examples. The first is based on the cellular RNA interference (RNAi) mechanism. Double strand RNA viruses are processed by an RNase III enzyme into ~20 base pair (bp) long short RNA. These can bind to mRNA of the virus and lead to their degradation via the RNAi process with Ago2 and the so called RNA induced silencing complex (RISC) mediated pathway. Some viruses are smart enough to produce a small inhibitor molecule that binds the 20 bp small RNA and thus inhibit the RNAi process.

There are other processes that target long double stranded RNA - most like from viruses because the cell does not make this type of RNA duplexes. The recognition of the long dsRNA activate the interferon pathway and lead to apoptosis of the cell and hopefully killing the viruses with it. However, again there are viruses that produce molecules that inhibit apoptosis and thus will survive long enough to replicate themselves before the cells eventually die.

A lot of these websites end up installing spyware on your system so make sure you have a good anti virus software and also an anti spyware installed.

Anyway you could just install Returnil or DeepFreeze and anything that changes on your computer will disappear when you restart. Do be warned this includes legit work (saved incorrectly) as well as viruses, malware and browser history and cache.

If you are careful what you download from Limewire, you can avoid many many viruses. If you are downloading a song and the majority of the files are 3.5mb each and you click the one that is 1.3mb, you will probably get a virus.
