you dont have any protection programs? or they are all expired? You might have to purchase a good one (like Norton, Kaspersky or Mcafee...) online, but if you dont wanna do that, you can format your computer again by yourself, just put everything you need in drive D, and delete drive C totally, but the thing is you have to have a CD with a key to format windows again. If you dont have a key, you can find one online for Windows XP, Windows Vista and try to crack, but for me, it's kinda complicated and sometimes the keys found are in blacklist, kinda unsafe. does your computer still have guarantee? if so call the customer service and ask a technician what to do step by step to format your computer or if you cant do it yourself, send it back to the factory, they will format it all over again for you. Your computer will be like new without viruses, but remember to back up your data like documents, pictures, music (put them on CDs) before you send your computer. Good luck!

Well unless you install something from a disk with a virus you can not get a virus if you don't connect to the internet ever.

But you're saying you want to wirelessly access the internet using the Belkin USB Network Adapter. If you use that you will obviously be connecting to the internet, in which case you are potentially susceptible to a virus.

P2P SOFTWARE usually dont hold viruses, the things ppl download does. The lower version of limewire used to have spyware in it or something. Limewire PRO is my preferance. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. Depends on if you are just re-installing the program or if you formated before re-installing. if you formatted, they are gone.
You usually have to do more than reinstall. you actually have to format the hard drive. As this will delete all the files off your computer, you will want to be sure you backup anything you want in the way of pictures, music, documents you have written, etc. first. Copy them to a CD or DVD (something that can be removed from your computer) before formatting the hard drive. Do NOT try to backup any of the programs, just the data files.
Reinstalling won't remove them. You need to make sure you format and repartition your hard drive first before reinstalling. then they will be gone, Unless you have a virus that has infected your bios or cmos.

If you only re-install windows without re-formating the hard drive, the virus's and trojan horses could still be on the hard drive. I would re-format and then install windows from scratch. You could also just get a free anti-virus software program like AVG from free.grisoft.com. Good Luck!

Your phone is already safe from viruses. Neither viruses, nor anti-virus software exists for it.

Yesterday I was watching a DVD on my laptop with my girlfriend when suddenly the computer started to lag-- the sound and video on the DVD started to break up as if my computer though it was a bad movie. After the lag, I ran Ad-Aware, noticing that it took forever for the program to come up, only to find that no spyware was on my computer besides basic tracking cookies. I restarted my computer, thinking that maybe something so simple would fix it, but no, it took 5 minutes for the computer to restart.

I have defragmented my drives, used Disk Cleanup, checked for viruses with Norton Anti-Virus, removed any spyware that existed, and still my computer is extremely sluggish.

I am using Windows XP on a HP laptop with 1 Gig of ram. Not sure what else you need to know, but my computer was much, much faster before this sudden change.

I'm not sure if it's illegal, or if it's what you download that's illegal. But it does have viruses. The first time I downloaded limewire, it automatically downloaded a worm onto my PC called Alcra-B or something. Basically it makes Limewire stay open FOREVER in order to spread itself to other computers. If you close it, it re-opens, and if you uninstall limewire, the can't find file window opens like every 5 seconds. Took me hours to fix.

DON'T USE LIMEWIRE. USE THE INTERNET.

Scan it before you open it. And if you know these people send you viruses,just don't open it.E-mails that I don't recognize the sender i simply don't open .I delete them. To get rid of them you have to run your anti-virus program, quarantine them and then delete them.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

For no reason on start up a box would come up saying unauthorised podification C-programs-alwi -soft ware-ash server. I didnt know what to do, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. in the descrition of your problrm, I don't think its a virus, its a system error, the rpc is remote procedure call which controls the ipconfig and connections along with a couple of other system critical services, if you are getting this error that is why your antivirus cannot update, it doesn't really explain the search problem but it is indicative of a system problem....running system restore may fix it, but you would be better off doing a repair install, this will not change your programs or files but will reinstall the operating system, or at least rewrite the files and could be a solution to your problem. Of course the simplest and more time consuming fix is to do a clean install (format the drive and start over from scratch) but if you try system restore first and that doesn't fix it, then try a repair install, if that doean't fix it then you will have to do a complete reinstall as whatever caused the error in the first place isn't going to get resolved any other way.

so viruses are always sucky. thats why I always use avg. I am a computer tech and I always use avg. I also found a new one its called multi-virus 2007. it works great too. Would be nice if it was that simple. Install an anti virus and you are safe, yes that would really be nice.

Unfortunately it doesn't quite work that way. For some odd reason all those virus writers out there like to screw over peoples machines any way they can. I'll never understand why.

Keep your machine up to date, operating system, antivirus, firewall any and all software. Microsoft is constantly patching holes in the Windows system and its Office software. So it is a good idea to keep up to date.

A good firewall is another way to protect your machine. Alas even those must be kept up to date and on. You'd be surprised how many people install firewalls and then turn them off because they didn't understand what the things were doing.

Spyware scanners have become necessary because of the many idiots putting either extra little programs into software downloads or putting bugs right into their web pages.

To answer your question, NO just putting an antivirus on the computer doesn't make it safe.

Don't try to use limewire as it is the most dangerous sharing program its full of viruses

and it also enables hacker users to hack you.Its like installing a spy-ware by yourself and permit them to do anything they want on you PC as it bypasses your firewall.

I also dont like torrets as they are a bit strange and full of advertisements.

Just use emule for emule you need to open a port but i will be handled better as it is known.

It also doesn't give the privileges to its users to hack you(it is safer)!

Well, with regards to this question, one of the comments is actually on the right track with the white blood cells. Usually, the body responds to viruses with a particular kind of cell called the T cell which is divided into CD4 and CD8. Concerning other "creatures" that kill viruses, drugs like Acicylovir that kill the Varicella virus of chickenpox is what is used. So that's it I guess- our body's own immune system as well as those darn good (and rich) pharmaceutical companies.
I can think of but one example: Hepatitis D virus, HDV causes a unique infection that requires the assistance of viral particles from hepatitis B virus (HBV) to replicate and infect other hepatocytes.

ARES is a good one that my cousin raves about. Downloading and installing this program will not give you any viruses.

However, P2P file sharing programs are "Use at your Own Risk" type deals, there is always a possibility of getting a virus from a file that you download, just be sure to scan each file with your antivirus program before opening them.

try downloading by using torrents. first download the porgram "utorrent" then get torrents for albums by using "torrentscan.com". the process is fairly simple from then on. this wont work for single songs or small downloads.

Yes as the answerer above me stated Safe Mode is ideal to run your scans. Safe mode runs only the bare minimum programs essential to start and run windows. I personally do not recommend turning off System Restore. I have had great success with the scanning for adware/scumware on my machine and when using the "Custom" scanning it scans the backups and archives and has found problems in them and cleared them out.

Case in point---%26gt; Some scumware writer found a new way to get past the scanning engines of all I had tried. I personally use Ad Aware to great success. Well Ad Aware could not get rid of this malware. Everytime I turned my machine on there it was ... My new wallpaper was a big web page! I ran in normal mode, safe mode to no avail. I then downloaded all the spyware scanners that are recommended on here and all to no avail. I finally went into system restore and restored it to a couple days before my infestation. SUCCESS!!! Life was good. I went through my computer and found some remnants of the cursed scumware. After a couple weeks of running my scanner it finally recognized the scumware that was leftover and deleted it.

The only downside is you need to know the name of the song your looking for and only want the one track (though you may find others along the way). For albums you might have to search for each track BUT I find that theres usually more than one track in the folder.

Just tell everyone to NOT click on it.

I did the same thing.

But to get rid of it, i UNINSTALLED the program and deleted it completley.

well thats semi true BUT ma are built on top of a secure OS to begin with while windows is not, so while you are correct that a bigger "target" would attract more virus writers a lot of them are "script kiddies"who don't truely know virus writing.

So there would be a huge learning curve as the mac OS is based on unix

but once again writing viruses for a OS that takes security very important and on top of that is more secure than windows (to begin with) might curtail the virus writers or lead them to seek easier pastures (i.e windows)

it's hard to tell because Mac's have government level security on them. I would say they'd definitely be more of a target. and it IS what OS you have....PC's have lots of loopholes in their security...Macs are built better, cost more in return.
